But What If There’s More?
I spoke with a new client the other day who had a huge unwanted change in his life a few years ago and has been doing intense therapy since then. He came to me in a very defeated place, not knowing who he was and where to go after the last few years. After spending so much time looking at what was wrong with him and his life, he was having a hard time seeing outside of it to even fathom that there could be more, yet he contacted me because there was a little voice inside of him that said “but what if there is?”
My job as a coach is to shine a light on these little spots of hope and strength within my clients, which they often can not see, and to help it grow. I help them borrow my viewpoint for a bit, and then develop their own, where they can see themselves and their struggles in a different light. And from this place, they stop living in the misery of “what is wrong” and step into “what is possible”, until that becomes “what is their new reality”.
I’m excited to see how this client starts to change. It often begins with very subtle ways that I will catch in a look on his face, his tone, or a quick phrase, which show that how he views himself and his life now holds hope, where there was only a spark before.
