Making Changes
So I’m doing a thing. Those who know me well (and anyone who has ever coached me) knows that I HATE planning. Planning and planners and schedules and to do lists. All of it. I feel as if they are the thief of my joy and spontaneity and authenticity.
However, as I get busier, my mind gets more scattered. To the point that I literally missed a networking appointment a few weeks ago. Like I totally thought it was on a different day and stood the person up.
And I have sticky notes and apps with random thoughts EVERYWHERE. Brilliant, inspiring thoughts, that I never touch again.
My husband gave me Ryder Carroll’s The Bullet Journal Method book a few years ago. It’s been on my bookshelf, while he’s been swearing by this method the whole time.
You see, my husband and I are DRASTICALLY different. He is the ultimate task master and I am the feeler/analyzer/intuitive one. So him recommending a book on organizing did NOT sit well with me, thus the bookshelf.
But at this point, my scatteredness is getting in my way. I don’t want to change my scattered because my scattered is how I listen to my clients talk about 5 different things and discover what ties them all together, and the ideas that come from my scattered are pretty rad! I do need to corral it a bit, though, so I can use the great thoughts it brings to me and feel peaceful.
So I read the Bullet Journal. And it spoke to me as no other organization system ever has before. It’s for people who like sticky notes and hate to be told how to plan (as well as those who do). It gives me the freedom to have EVERYTHING that comes from my brain in one place and a system to actually look at it again so it can be used.
So much of it is so simple that I thought, “how have I never thought of this!” All of it is easy. And adaptable. And freeing. And I totally love it. And it lets me be scattered (in the best ways) and organized all at the same time.
